While walking from my home to work this morning, i observed the the DPW recycling truck coming down the street picking up the recycling. The worker would pick up the bin or bag very quickly, many times with one hand, and often recycling would fall into the street. I saw him pick up one item that hit the ground, but most of the rest was left to lie there, turning into trash that was going to blow around. This wasn't just one house, but several in a row. I took pictures and then picked up the recycling as best I could and put it in the containers on the west side of Murray street, which hadn't been picked up yet. It seems to me that DPW needs to be a little more careful about their pickups. I don't know if it is a question of time constraints, but if that is the case, maybe more crews are needed. Also, I think recycling containers with lids would be an enormous help in preventing all the loose material from getting strewn around.

That's a great recommendation about landlord notification vtjimbo. We sent that information out to all 3,000 landlords in the 2014 rental registration for Code Enforcement. That covers all of the nearly 10,000 rental units in Burlington. All the landlords in Burlington should be familiar with the options DPW offers.
We will include a similar update in the 2015 Rental Registration too.
