This last photo was taken on Peru Street where I encountered the truck again on my walk to work. In this particular case, the beer carton and the can were not in official recycling containers, but looked as if they got blown into the street by the wind. However, the worker paid no attention to either as the truck went by, just picking up and emptying the containers on the snow bank where the green belt would be. I don't know if that is some kind of policy or not.

Issue Acknowledged - First of all I would like to thank you for cleaning up the best you could. Unfortunately we have two drivers out and have to have people cover the shifts that just don't give the job the attention that they should. I did speak to the supervisor and he will talk to the workers. Please give Customer Service a call at 863-9094 option 3 if you observe this again so we can take care of the issue at that time. I just wanted to add a couple of notes. One, I appreciate that the supervisor will be discussing this with the workers. Thanks also for the information regarding the totes with lids. However, a lot of families, particularly here in the ONE, aren't able to afford $56 or $66 dollars for a recycling tote. As well, there are a fair number of renters on my street, and they understandably will not want to invest that kind of money into a tote they might only use for a year. Perhaps landlords can be contacted so that they know this option is available, particularly for buildings with large tenancies? Finally, I'll note that, while the offered tote is great from a perspective of helping to keep recycling from blowing away, it is really large and wouldn't go very well in our kitchen, where we keep our bin, and from where most of our recycling is generated. That's a great recommendation about landlord notification vtjimbo. We sent that information out to all 3,000 landlords in the 2014 rental registration for Code Enforcement. That covers all of the nearly 10,000 rental units in Burlington. All the landlords in Burlington should be familiar with the options DPW offers.

We will include a similar update in the 2015 Rental Registration too.
