Description

To start out, I'm not bothering to submit anything at all anymore until April 8th. This is because the only person at the City who seems to care or be able to do anything about this issue (one of the 311 supervisors) is away until then. I forwarded my e-mail to his backup, who as I predicted has not done anything nor replied; he would have by now.

For almost a year I have been contacting him whenever the reports that I submit are being ignored. For some of them, such as potholes, this is actually against the law as the provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards (see my FAQ in Answers) indicate that potholes qualified by size, depth and road type must be fixed within two days.

Well, the latest one that has motivated me to write this is: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/5539939-large-pothole-in-bike-lane-university-and-college . This huge pothole is right in a bike lane, directly south of the provincial capital Queens Park at one of our most major intersections, much larger than the minimum standards and measured/verified to be so, not known/documented, and yet this has been ignored for now two weeks.

I have been dealing with many like this over the years and now see that this pattern is increasing, currently possibly due to the supervisor being away. Sadly I even held off until the spring so that I would not be bothering the City submitting reports while the roads were still covered with snow and ice, but it didn't make a difference. I've seen several reports from others for valid issues in the past couple of days that have just sat unacknowledged.

I am considering starting to report these oversights to the provincial Ministry of Transportation as unfortunately following up with the City is not solving the issue. We've already seen that the Province's effectiveness in overriding the City in other matters. Any input from the contributors here (especially the ignored ones!) would be welcome.
